Participants

In July 1999 the Rhône Département decided to create the Museum of Confluences . On an absolutely unique site at the meeting of Lyon's two rivers, the Museum will be a venue for encounters, discussion, debate, interchange, learning and much more.

The Museum of Confluences : a 100% Rhône Département project

Already home to a respected archaeology division, the Rhône Département is now setting out to provide a facility allowing for the explanation and discussion of the big issues of our time. As a source of information and, by extension, education for all sections of the public, the Museum of Confluences will provide a focal point for contact and discussion for people of all ages and backgrounds. Dedicated to the relationship between science and society, the Museum of Confluences will make Lyon one of the world's great cultural capitals. This outwardlooking flagship project will thus give a real boost to the Rhône Département's cultural, educational, economic and touristic pulling-power.

The Business Club

The Museum has already mobilised local and national economic circles. Formed in 2002, the Museum of Confluences Business Club comprises over thirty companies whose aims are to publicise, explain and promote this ambitious cultural project. Ensuring a unified approach: an international Advisory Council The Museum of Confluences Advisory Council provides ongoing guidance for the creation and shaping of the Museum. Made up of leading figures from the scientific and cultural worlds, it assists the Museum team in their strategic, scientific and cultural choices.

SERL: the executive contracting authority

SERL - the Rhône/Lyon Public Amenities Company - partners local authorities in planning, designing and implementing projects with the public interest in mind. The Rhône Département has appointed SERL contracting authority for the building of the Museum of Confluences and garden, and the lead-up to their opening.
