Jazz days 2018
From the 26th to the 28th of April
Residency: Mario Stantchev and the Bulgarian Academic Folk Choir of Plovdiv
Born in Sofia into a family of musicians, Mario Stantchev began playing piano at the age of five and discovered improvisation during his teenage years. In 1980, he left Bulgaria and moved to Lyon, where he founded the jazz department of the Conservatoire de Lyon.
Mario Stantchev is a genre-crossing virtuoso (comfortable playing classical, gypsy, rock, pop, contemporary and jazz music), whose thirst for freedom and encounters have led him to play throughout the world with musicians from all horizons: Ron Carter, Daniel Humair, Adam Nussbaum, Riccardo Del Fra, Steve Swallow, John Scofield, Michael Brecker, André Ceccarelli, Laurent Blumenthal, Louis Sclavis, Toots Thielemans… As a tribute to his native roots and to reflect his original musical world, the Musée des Confluences has given the composer a carte blanche.
