"As I contemplate my collection of headdresses, I get an exhilarating feeling of travelling around the world, like a journey without moving. – Antoine de Galbert, collector.
Humanity covers its head. We do this to shield ourselves from the sun or rain and sometimes, more symbolically, to express our identity or protect ourselves from malevolent forces. Throughout the world, warriors, newly-weds and monarchs wear headdresses to distinguish themselves in society. Surprising, and sometimes spectacular, this headwear reflects great cultural diversity through its various shapes and materials.
