C’est l’histoire d’une statuette entrée au musée en 1934 qui suscite aujourd’hui beaucoup dequestions sur son authenticité. Son origine interpelle, modifiée au cours des années, elle provient tantôt des Îles Marquises tantôt des Antilles
pour s’avérer être façonnée dans une pierre qui ne peut provenir des Îles Marquises. 10 ans environ après son entrée en collections, elle fait son apparition dans une publication qui tendrait à la faire appartenir au corpus des « Barbier-Mueller », oeuvres d’Art Brut. Cependant elle fait partie des collections du Musée des Confluences. Toutes ces questions interpellent. Le musée a-t-il été victime d’une supercherie ?

abstract

This is the story of a statuette, which got in the museum in 1934 and whose authenticity still comes into question today. Its origin is a wonder and has changed over the years. It could either come from the Marquesas or the Antilles islands but finally proved to be cut from a stone that cannot be found on the Marquesas Islands. 10 years after it had entered the museum's collections, it appeared in a publication that tended to make it belong to the tribal art ‘Barbier-Mueller’ corpus. However, it is
part of the Museum of the Confluences collections. All these questions are wonders. Has the museum been the victim of a hoax?
