Many animals were frequently represented in the form of amulets or small statuettes. They could be placed in temples as offerings or worn as jewellery for their magical properties. Like the goddess Nut, who swallowed Ra in the evening and gave birth to him again in the morning, the sow, which sometimes eats her young, was linked to maternity.
