Deschamps Pierre-Olivier - Paris - France

The high-backed chair is generally associated with the status of chief. Among the Luguru and Kami, which have matrilineal societies, the sculpted head on top of the chair's back is thought to represent a female ancestor. It was brought back by the Holy Spirit missionary Alexandre Leroy, who stated that this seat belonged to the Wakami (Kami) of the region of Mrogoro (Morogoro).
