Block of azurite (copper carbonate) formed of spherical clusters of crystals in the shape of flattened prisms.
Copper played an important role as of the third millennium, as it was one of the first metals to be used, first hammered and then melted. Alloyed with tin, it forms bronze, which is stronger. This first alloy was used on a large scale to make weapons, jewellery, tools and household objects.
